U.S. considers collapse of Ukraine's defense unlikely

May 3, 2024

The latest confidential assessment by the US military indicates that Russian forces will continue to advance in Ukraine in the coming days, but the defeat of Ukrainian forces is considered unlikely.

This is stated in the New York Times article, which is based on the testimony of more than a dozen officials from the United States and Europe.

The estimate given to the NYT by an American official is that Russia will continue to “make minor gains in the east and southeast until May 9,” which is symbolic for Moscow.

However, according to the official, the conclusion of the U.S. military's analysis is that “the Ukrainian military will not be completely defeated along the front line, despite the acute shortage of ammunition.”
