The defense forces are preparing for a counteroffensive operation, so Ukraine needs heavy equipment and trained reserves.
This is reported with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov met with a delegation from the EU Political and Security Committee led by Delphine Pronk.
Reznikov briefed the European allies on the current state of the situation in the forefront, including the northern, eastern and southern directions. He placed special emphasis on EU assistance to the Defense Forces and military training abroad.
He thanked foreign partners for the EU's solidarity with Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale invasion and assistance in the political, economic, military and humanitarian spheres.
"Thanks to the supply of Western weapons, the AFU has successes on the battlefield. However, we are preparing for a counteroffensive operation, so Ukraine needs primarily heavy equipment and trained reserves. We are interested in training the Ukrainian military at all levels: from individual training of soldiers to collective exercises of brigade-level units," Reznikov said.
The minister stressed that Ukraine is looking forward to the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, which should testify that the country is not only a reliable partner of the Alliance, but also a state that has well studied the Russian aggressor and knows how to fight against him.
"The main threat to NATO is Russia. And only Ukraine knows in practice how to fight the enemy of the entire civilized world. Therefore, the acquisition by our state of membership in the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union is one of the key elements of a strong system of international security architecture," he stressed.-
As a reminder, Reznikov reported that Ukraine is preparing for a spring counteroffensive, which could begin in April-May.
