A pro-Russian party wins elections in Slovakia

The pro-Russian Smer-SD party won the parliamentary elections in Slovakia on Sunday, October 1, after almost all the votes were counted. It is headed by former Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Aktuality reported this. As noted, the former prime minister received the largest number of votes in the election. They totaled more than half a million. The Smer-SD party was able to gain 23.29% of the vote.

Robert Fico is known for his pro-Russian stance. The politician stated that he would stop the transfer of weapons to Ukraine and called for peace talks. He also promised to block Ukraine's NATO ambitions.

The second place was taken by the liberal and pro-Ukrainian party Progressive Slovakia (PS), which received 17.9% of the vote.
