Aid for Ukraine's victory must destroy Putin's regime

May 27, 2023

The West still believes that Russia will not change after the war and that it will have to negotiate with it instead of destroying the aggressive Putin regime.

This opinion was expressed by Rasa Jukneviciene, a Member of the European Parliament, during a briefing on Ukraine's prospects for joining NATO at the Vilnius Summit at the Ukraine-Union Media Center.

She noted that some in the West think that Russia will not change and that it will be necessary to establish a dialog with it after the war.

"It would be the biggest mistake to put Ukraine's membership (in NATO - ed.) on the table for negotiations with Russia. I am afraid that some people still hold this opinion," Jukneviciene said.

In this context, the MEP emphasized that assistance aimed at Ukraine's victory should destroy the Putin regime. "If this thinking wins in the West, it will change the vision of Ukraine's membership in NATO. Without an aggressive regime, no one in Russia will be afraid to take this step," she said.

"Of course, Russians have to decide for themselves, but today no one sees an alternative (to regime change - ed.). Putin is very happy when someone says that Russia will always be the same. This will mean that only Putin or people like him will be in power in Russia, and then Western politicians will return to business as usual, as if there is no other way out," the politician explained.

Jukneviciene also expressed the opinion that the West should not directly organize a revolution in Russia, but instead should not reduce sanctions pressure and condemn the Kremlin's actions.
