Biden administration 'unimpressed' with Ukraine's victory plan - WSJ

U.S. officials are concerned that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's plan to win the war against Russia is more akin to a request for more weapons than a full-fledged strategy.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to The Wall Street Journal.

According to them, Zelenskyy has been promoting this plan for several months as a basis for victory.

However, American and European leaders familiar with the general outlines of the plan believe that it does not offer a clear path to victory, especially amid ongoing successes of Russian troops on the battlefield.

“I am not impressed, there is nothing new in it,” said one senior official.

One of the central points of the plan requires the US to give Ukraine the green light to use weapons at Kyiv's discretion, said Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

Without this authority, he said, Ukraine's proposals would ultimately be “less relevant” because it would be difficult for Kyiv to respond to ongoing Russian attacks.

For months now, Biden has refused to make concessions to Ukraine's longstanding request to lift restrictions on the supply of long-range U.S. and British missiles that would allow its troops to strike military targets deep inside Russia.

Despite his British counterpart's persistent requests, Biden is standing his ground, as U.S. officials argue that such weapons would not change the strategic situation and could possibly push Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to escalate the war.
