Biden gives new explanation for withdrawing from the election

In a new interview, President Joe Biden gave the most extensive explanation to date of why he decided not to run for a second term.

He gave this explanation on CBS Sunday Morning, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

Biden said that the polls he had at his disposal showed a neck-and-neck race, and it would have been that way until the end, while many Democrats feared that Biden's candidacy could negatively affect the congressional elections in November.

"But what happened was that a lot of my Democratic colleagues in the House and the Senate thought I was going to hurt them in the race," Biden said.

"And I was concerned that if I stayed in the race, that would become a theme. You'd be interviewing me about why Nancy Pelosi said what she said, why she did what she did - and I thought that would be a real distraction, number one," the US president explained.

Dozens of Democrats have called on Biden to pass the baton to another candidate, questioning whether he can defeat Trump in November.
