The European Union will soon decide on its political plans for the coming years. One of the main priorities will be defense.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Bloomberg.
Next week, 27 countries will hold a forum of the European Political Community, an informal EU summit in Granada, Spain. They will adopt a declaration containing political plans for the coming years.
The publication has published part of the declaration that EU leaders will adopt soon.
"We will strengthen our defense readiness and develop the European defense technology and industrial base, including greater investment," the document says.
As Bloomberg notes, defense is becoming one of the most pressing priorities for the European Union amid Russia's war against Ukraine and Donald Trump's possible return to the White House. This could hinder military cooperation.
EU leaders are also trying to work out a common path on migration and competitiveness, as Ukraine's accession process has intensified the bloc's enlargement.
The draft declaration, which may still be amended, says that "enlargement will strengthen European sovereignty and is a geostrategic investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity." In addition, the declaration says that Brussels should carry out "the necessary internal work" on its priorities, decision-making process, and joint budget.
