Thus, the Ministry of State Security of China called on citizens to transmit information about suspicious persons and their activities through special channels, and promised a reward for such data.
The United States has expressed concern about the strengthening of such measures and warned that foreign companies in China could be punished for regular commercial activities.
"We have concerns about this, certainly encouraging citizens to spy on each other is a big concern," said State Department spokesman Matt Miller.
