Czech president-elect: Ukraine should receive all weapons

Feb 2, 2023

The former head of the NATO Military Committee, Petr Pavel, who was recently elected president of the Czech Republic, believes that there should be "no restrictions" on military assistance to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.

He said this in an interview with AFP.

Pavel believes that the West should provide Ukraine with all kinds of weapons, except nuclear weapons.

"As for conventional weapons, I really see no reason for any restrictions. Ukraine cannot fight such a strong enemy without armored technology, drones, artillery, and long-range missiles, but perhaps also without supersonic aircraft," he added.

The Czech president-elect pointed out that "some countries have taken a somewhat restrained stance" on the supply of modern weapons. "If we take a united position, it gives us a better chance of success. We have to act in unity on these issues," he said.

"We must give Ukraine every means to help it dislodge the Russian army. It's important to show continued support for Ukraine, to emphasize all the good things, and the desire to continue our initiative. I think this is what Ukraine needs to hear," Paul stressed.
