The President of Latvia called for Ukraine to lift restrictions on the use of all types of weapons against Russia. After the Russians attacked Poltava on September 3, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs called on Europe and the international community to authorize strikes against Russia with Western weapons.
The statement was made in reference to a post on the Latvian president's social networking site X.
President Rinkēvičs said that allowing strikes on Russia with long-range European weapons would not be an escalation, but would help defeat Russia.
“Once again, the restrictions on Ukraine's use of all weapons against Russia must be lifted. This is not about escalation, but about the lives of innocent people,” the Latvian president emphasized.
The Latvian president particularly noted the strikes on Poltava the day before.
