The United States expects Iran to retaliate against Israel in connection with the assassination of one of the leaders of the Hamas group in the near future.
The G7 foreign ministers held a telephone conversation on the situation in the Middle East. Diplomats discussed the urgent need for de-escalation. This was reported on Sunday, August 4, on the website of the US State Department.
It is indicated that the parties talked about finding ways to cease fire between the Hamas group and Israel, which would guarantee the release of hostages and increase the amount of humanitarian aid entering Gaza.
They also discussed how a ceasefire in Gaza would open the door to peace and stability in the region.
In addition, Blinken and the foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to Israel's security and called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent the conflict from escalating.
