Russian air carrier Azimut will be able to operate direct flights from Moscow to Tbilisi starting May 17 after the Georgian aviation regulator issued the relevant permit.
The head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Georgia, Givi Davitashvili, said this on Monday, according to Imedi.
According to Davitashvili, five airlines - both Russian and Georgian - have already applied to the Georgian aviation regulator for direct flights between the two countries.
"One of them has already been checked, namely Azimut, which will be able to operate flights from May 17. Today, the Civil Aviation Authority of Georgia issued the relevant permit," he announced.
The head of the regulator emphasized that no Russian company under sanctions will be allowed to fly to Georgia; the same will be true for aircraft whose manufacturer has stopped servicing them.
