Georgian Airways bans Zurabishvili from flying on its planes

May 22, 2023

Georgian Airways has declared Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, who called for a boycott of the carrier the day before because of her flights to Russia, persona non grata on its planes.

This was reported by the Novosti Georgia portal.

Tamaz Gaiashvili, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the airline, said that this is a response to her statement yesterday - Zurabishvili called for a boycott of the airline after the start of direct flights to Moscow.

"We will not let her on board," Gaiashvili said, demanding that the president apologize, not only to the airline but to the entire Georgian people.

In his opinion, Georgian Airways today owes a debt of gratitude to the merits and deeds of Georgian pilots who 30 years ago evacuated people from burning Sukhumi.

While criticizing the president in every possible way, Gaiashvili emphasizes her French past, pointing out that she "walked around Paris" and suddenly switched to the president's ancestors: "Let this lady tell us about her ancestors who, together with the treasury of Georgia, looted churches, monasteries, and national museums and fled, leaving the Georgian people hungry".
