Germany is closing Russian consulates because Moscow has recently limited the number of German diplomats, making it difficult for German consulates in Russia to continue their work.

Thus, an order was issued to close Russian consulates in Germany. Until the end of the year, Russia is only allowed to continue the work of the embassy in Berlin and one of the five consulates general (Bonn, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Leipzig or Munich).

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that Russia announced a new upper limit of 350 German diplomats, so the operations of German consulates general in Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk must be stopped.

Only the embassy in Moscow and the consulate general in St. Petersburg will continue to operate.
