According to Spiegel, Chancellor Olaf Scholz had held out the prospect of transferring the state-of-the-art anti-aircraft weapon in the summer of 2022. It was developed by the German defense company Diehl Defence from Überlingen on Lake Constance.

The first Iris-T specimen was handed over to Ukraine in October last year. Egypt, which ordered several systems from Diehl Defence, handed over one fire unit to Ukraine.

It is still unclear when the remaining two IRIS-T systems promised by the federal government will arrive in Ukraine. They have yet to be produced.
