Germany is not against Ukraine's use of Leopard tanks in Russia

Once Ukraine receives Western weapons, they become Ukrainian. This rule also applies to German Leopard 2 tanks.

This was stated by the chairman of the German Parliament's Defense Committee, Markus Faber, RBC-Ukraine reports citing WAZ.

Faber said that he sees no problem if Ukraine uses the weapons provided by Germany to advance into Russian territory. This includes the Leopard 2 main battle tank.

"With the transfer to Ukraine, these are Ukrainian weapons. This applies to any material, including Leopard 2... With Russia's attack on Ukraine, the territory of both states is a war zone. The use of weapons is governed by the provisions of international law," said the Chairman of the Defense Committee.

It is worth noting that the decision to transfer Leopard tanks was initially very difficult for Berlin. In the end, it even came down to such arguments as "German weapons should not be fired at Russians."

However, over time, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz noted that he allowed Ukraine to use the weapons transferred by Germany to strike at the territory of the Russian Federation, but only in the areas bordering the Kharkiv region.
