For the first time, the German Navy successfully tested laser weapons designed for the liquidation of drones during the exercises.
It is reported by Focus.
The laser weapon was developed by MBDA and Rheinmetall companies. It was installed on the frigate Sachsen, which took part in exercises in the Baltic Sea near the Putlos military training ground back in August.
After lengthy evaluations, MBDA and Rheinmetall, which participated in the development, called the test a success. "This is a big step toward operational laser weapons," they said.
The development companies say the future high-energy laser weapon system for the Navy is particularly suitable for defending against drones and their clusters, as well as attacking speedboats at close and close range.
In addition, laser weapons in the enhanced version can also be used to destroy guided missiles or mortar shells.
