Germany to buy 66 wheeled armored personnel carriers for Ukraine

Jun 2, 2023

The German government has signed a contract with Flensburger Fahrzeugbau GmbH (FFG) for the supply of 66-wheeled armored personnel carriers.

This was reported by a spokeswoman for the German Ministry of Defense on Friday, DPA reports.

Berlin considered purchasing Fuchs armored personnel carriers from the Rheinmetall defense concern for Ukraine, but, according to DPA, chose FFG because the price of their APCs was six to seven times lower.

It is not yet known when the FFG wheeled armored personnel carriers will be shipped to Ukraine.

In addition, the German government will purchase 64 multipurpose vehicles from FFG - old Swedish-made vehicles that the company has modernized. Some of them were previously used by the Bundeswehr.

The amount of money the German federal government will pay FFG under the two contracts is traditionally not disclosed.
