U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris won 99% of the votes cast at the Democratic Party convention in the vote to nominate her for the U.S. presidential election.

According to AP, this was announced by the party's leadership after the five-day online voting, reports Yevropeiska Pravda.

Last week, the party announced that Harris had the support of a sufficient number of delegates to become a presidential candidate in the November 5 election.

The vice president was the only candidate in the electronic voting, and now her nomination must be formally confirmed by the convention, which begins on August 19.

The vote had to be held after incumbent President Joe Biden, who won the party primaries, withdrew from the presidential campaign in July.

About 4,500 delegates to the Democratic National Convention began voting on Harris' candidacy via secure email on Thursday, and voting continued until Monday evening.

Harris has not yet chosen a running mate, but is expected to do so in the near future, possibly as early as today.
