Hungary blocks EU plan for €18bn aid package for Ukraine

Nov 9, 2022

Hungary has told EU finance ministers at a meeting in Brussels that it will not support the necessary changes to prepare an 18 billion euro aid package for Ukraine next year.

This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.

The European Commission will propose on Wednesday to give Kyiv concessional loans on a more stable basis, but the initiative will require the use of additional space available in the EU budget.

Hungarian Finance Minister Mihai Varga told his colleagues that he would not support such an option, which requires the unanimous support of 27 governments.
