The Israeli army has discovered the largest underground weapons factory in the Gaza Strip, with underground workshops that they say were used to produce long-range missiles.
This was reported by Reuters.
The military said that, in addition to rockets, the workshops produced copies or modifications of standard ammunition, and were connected through underground mines to a network of tunnels used to transport weapons to combat units throughout the Gaza Strip.
The factory also has several elevators for easy transportation of blanks and finished ammunition.
Israeli officials say that Hamas deliberately places military infrastructure in residential areas to make it more difficult to attack.
It is worth noting that at the end of December last year, the Israeli army announced that it had significantly expanded operations in southern Gaza, especially against Hamas' underground infrastructure. It was reported that the IDF was "very actively fighting" the Palestinian terrorist group's tunnels.
Later, on January 4, it became known that Israeli troops discovered and destroyed a clandestine Hamas weapons factory on the coast of central Gaza. According to the IDF, over the past week, soldiers raided Hamas territory and discovered several tunnel mines. They led to an underground network hundreds of meters long. In addition, the soldiers discovered a cache of weapons, including mortars, grenades and anti-tank rocket launchers.
