Intelligence revealed how many Iskander missiles Russia still has

Nov 7, 2022

Russia has already used 80 percent of its modern missiles in strikes against Ukraine. Thus, it has about 120 ballistic missiles for the Iskander missile system.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Vadym Skibitskyi in a commentary for The Economist.

Ukrainian officials admit that our country does not yet have an effective defense against Iranian missiles, which hit targets at much higher speeds than cruise missiles or drones, or against missiles similar to Iskander and Killjoy (Kinzhal).

For example, Skibitsky reported that in October the Russians fired 25 Iskander missiles at Ukraine, while the AFU was only able to shoot down three of them. It is noted that so far Russia's use of such missiles has been restrained only by the deficit.

Skibitsky estimates that Russia has only 120 Iskander missiles left. Other sources claim that the number of “Kinshals” is about 40.

However, as the Russian stockpile is replenished by the Iranians, the aggressor country may double its attacks.

Thus, Ukraine's military intelligence became aware of the Kremlin's plans to purchase Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar ballistic missiles from Iran and send them by air to Crimea and by sea to Russian ports on the Caspian Sea.

Ukrainian officials point out that now more than ever, our country needs weapons capable of shooting down ballistic missiles, such as the U.S. Patriot surface-to-air missile system. They also need longer-range missiles, such as the U.S. ATACMS, which they hope to use to hit command centers hundreds of kilometers behind enemy lines.

It is worth mentioning that Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov recently stated that Russia had a little more than a quarter of the high-precision missiles left in its pre-February stockpile.

In addition, the intelligence service reported that Iran plans to send Russia a new batch of more than 200 combat drones in early November.
