In a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, Iranian President Massoud Pescekian said that the United States and Europe should urge Israel to agree to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
This was reported by the Iranian government's press service.
In the conversation, Pezeshkian argues that Iran has always played a "leading role in establishing peace, security and stability" in the region and that the "Zionist regime" is responsible for the current escalation.
"If the United States and Western countries really want to prevent war and insecurity in the region, they must convince this regime to stop the genocide and attacks in Gaza and agree to a ceasefire," the statement said.
The Iranian president also emphasized that avoiding war is one of Iran's "fundamental principles."
