Kursk region operation brings US decision on ATACMS strikes closer

Aug 14, 2024

The operation of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region is bringing the US decision to allow long-range ATACMS missiles to strike deep into Russia closer.

This is stated in the RBC-Ukraine article "Success Story? Will the Kursk breakthrough accelerate the West's "good" for strikes deep into Russia?".

Oleksandr Musienko, head of the Center for Military Legal Studies, is convinced that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' serious success in the offensive against the Kursk region has given a second wind to the issue of allowing Western missile strikes deep into Russia.

"When there are such successes, many people, especially in the United States, want to be involved in the 'success story'. It gives a second wind to the fact that we can get the green light. The senators are delighted, they see the Kursk breakthrough as a success story and want to add it to their record. This operation stimulates the adoption of such a decision by the United States," the expert noted.

In his opinion, after the trip to Kyiv, U.S. senators will begin to seriously lobby the ATACMS issue with the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden.

"There are chances. It is not for nothing that the president instructed Umerov to intensify the track and negotiate to speed up the supply of weapons and achieve the right to strike at Russian territory with long-range weapons," Musienko added.
