Lithuania to install border fortifications near Kaliningrad region

Aug 7, 2024

The Lithuanian authorities have decided to install permanent counter-mobility fortifications in two locations near the border with Russia's Kaliningrad region.

This was stated by the Minister of National Defense of Lithuania Laurinas Kasciunas in a commentary to LRT.

Kasciūnas said that the Lithuanian Defense Forces have already begun transporting the first counter-mobility equipment - dragon's teeth, anti-tank hedgehogs and checkpoints - to specially equipped sites.

If the majority of these assets are designed to be moved from place to place, permanent fortifications will be created on the border with Kaliningrad Oblast, the minister emphasized.

"We have assessed the places that need preliminary fortification, and we will start doing it," the head of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry announced.

The ministry is expected to officially present the decision to permanently strengthen the border with Kaliningrad to the public on September 5.
