As several dozen migrants try to illegally enter Latvia from Belarus every day, Lithuanian border guards are going to help their neighbors.
This was reported by LRT.
According to the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT), a group of about ten Lithuanian officers will help their colleagues.
According to VSAT, this year, by July 26, just over 350 illegal migrants were prevented from entering Lithuania from Belarus, while more than 3,000 attempts to illegally cross the border were recorded in Latvia and 21,000 in Poland.
Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite told reporters last week that Estonia is also sending aid to Latvia.
"On Monday, we are sending our border guards to help our Latvian colleagues. Our colleagues from Estonia are also doing the same to help ensure border security on the ground and not to detain them (illegal migrants - Ed.) on the territories of our states," she said.
