Macron will call for a strategic awakening in Europe, - The Guardian
French President Emmanuel Macron, during the International Forum on Security GLOBSEC, will call on Europe for a "strategic awakening" because of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This was reported by The Guardian.
During the speech, Macron will note France's role in unblocking aid to Ukraine in the form of tanks and defending NATO's eastern flank. He will also note the deployment of 1,250 French troops in Romania and 300 in Estonia.
The president will also declare Paris' commitment to Ukraine's victory and the unacceptability of freezing the war. In particular, he will warn against the decline of European strategic stability due to Russia's successive withdrawals from nuclear arms control treaties and the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
According to the publication's interlocutor on the Champs-Elysees, Macron has already accepted an increase of more than a third, compared to 2019 - 2025, of France's planned defense spending for 2024 - 2030.
