Moldova cuts exports to Russia by a third in a year

Over the past year, exports of Moldovan products to the Russian Federation have fallen by almost a third.

This was announced on April 10 by the Minister of Economy Dumitru Alaiba, NewsMaker reports.

The minister clarified that Moldova's exports to Russia decreased by 31%. At the same time, he noted that the European Union is currently the largest market for Moldovan producers.

In 2022, Moldova exported products worth more than $2.54 billion to the EU, the minister emphasized.

According to Alaina, the volume of exports to European destinations increased by 32% compared to 2021.

"Over the past 15 years, Moldova's economy has radically reoriented," he added.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Romania ranks first in the list of importing countries of Moldovan products. The neighboring country receives 28.6% of Moldovan exports.

Earlier, the Minister of Agriculture noted that Romania remains the country's main trading partner, especially after the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine, when exports to the CIS market plummeted.
