Norway intends to donate 12 diesel trains to Ukraine, as requested by Kyiv.
This information was confirmed to Nettavisen by Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nigord.
In a commentary on the publication, the minister clarified the timing of the transfer of trains.
"We can probably send four of them by summer, and possibly eight more within a year," he said.
According to him, Ukraine absolutely needs this transportation. "They are in a state of war and need to transport a lot of materials, food, and civilian aid," the minister explained.
The trains that will go from Norway to Ukraine are not new: they are 40 years old. However, Ukraine itself asked for such support, the newspaper writes.
According to Nygård, the costs associated with their transportation and preparation will amount to 10-12 million Norwegian kroner (approximately 1 million euros).
The Norwegian government has been providing Ukraine with various support since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
