The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Tini Cox, plans to pay a visit to Ukraine.

He said this in an interview.

According to the PACE President, in his position, he monitors problems with fundamental freedoms in Ukraine.

"Freedom of speech and freedom of the media are extremely important. Of course, in times of war, something should happen differently, but there are basic things. Even your president said that we are not protecting borders, but values and citizens," Cox said.

"I am planning to go to Ukraine soon and I want to discuss this with your parliament, because as you also say, it is difficult for a state to do everything perfectly during armed aggression," he said.

However, according to the PACE President, there is something in between doing everything perfectly" and "doing everything completely wrong.

"And I think the Council of Europe can help your parliament improve the situation even in times of war," he said.

According to Cox, the Ukrainian authorities should not wait until the war is over to fix what can be done now: "Because tomorrow there will be new challenges, new problems."
