Senior Pentagon officials recommended that the US presidential administration provide Ukraine with white phosphorus ammunition as part of defense aid. However, the White House rejected this initiative.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the American edition of NBC.
According to the Pentagon's plan, such “phosphorus” shells could be used by Ukrainian troops during military operations at the front. But not to defeat enemy forces and equipment.
For example, a publication in the American media states that the Pentagon's recommendation was to provide Ukraine with artillery shells with white phosphorus to illuminate the battlefield and create smoke screens, but not to use them against enemy troops.
Three U.S. officials told NBC that the U.S. government rejected the Defense Ministry's idea of providing Ukraine with white phosphorus ammunition “several times”.
