Pentagon confirms it will send Ukraine an older version of the Abrams

On Tuesday, US Department of Defense spokesman Patrick Ryder confirmed that Ukraine will receive an older version of the US Abrams tanks, which will speed up their training and transfer to the Ukrainian military.
CNN quoted Ryder's words at a briefing for journalists.
"After further study and analysis of the best possible options, the Department of Defense, in close coordination with Ukraine, has decided to provide the M1A1 Abrams tank option, which will allow us to significantly accelerate delivery times and deliver this important equipment to Ukraine by the fall of this year," he said.
According to the spokesman, the US will also provide Ukraine with "modern armored vehicles and weapon systems" that are "very similar in capabilities" to the M1A2 Abrams tank, including .50-caliber machine guns and 120-millimeter cannons.
