Poland plans to purchase 22 Italian-British-made AW101 multipurpose helicopters in addition to the four already ordered.
This was reported by Polsat News.
"Another good news for the Airborne Forces. Today, we have sent an invitation to negotiate the supply of 22 AW101 multi-purpose helicopters, which will soon replace the post-Soviet models," said Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
The machines will most likely be part of the 25th separate airborne brigade. Earlier, it was also said that the helicopters could be used by Polish special forces.
The information was also confirmed by the Arms Agency, which said that PZL Świdnik would be responsible for the negotiations.
Only two days ago, the first AW101 helicopter landed in Świdnik. Three more are due to arrive in the near future. The machines will be part of the equipment of the 44th Naval Aviation Base in Darłowo, thus replenishing the Navy's arsenal.
