Putin and Russia will not resolve the issue of Ukraine's future membership in NATO.
This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"The allies agree on many issues, including Ukraine's membership, everyone agrees that NATO's doors are open... All allies agree that Ukraine will be a member," Stoltenberg said.
He noted that it is the Alliance and Ukraine, not Russia, that will decide when our country will become a full member.
"President Putin does not have a veto on NATO enlargement," Stoltenberg emphasized.-
He noted that the allies are continuing consultations and are confident that they will be able to reach a consensus on Ukraine's membership aspirations. But for now, the most pressing issue is to ensure that Ukraine has the upper hand so that President Putin does not win.
"If Ukraine does not remain a sovereign and independent nation, then the question of membership will not be raised at all," the NATO Secretary General added.-
Stoltenberg emphasized that the allies are focusing their efforts on providing military and economic support to Kyiv and will confirm it at the summit in Vilnius. Practical preparations for membership include assistance with the transition to new weapons, standards and procedures, etc.
