Return of occupied territories to Ukraine will facilitate negotiations

Sep 20, 2022

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the return of the territories seized by Russia to Ukraine will facilitate the negotiation process to end the war.

He said this in an interview with the American PBS channel, which was quoted by Anadolu Agency.

"This is what is needed and what is expected. Mr. Guterres (UN Secretary-General. - Ed.) has made certain steps in this matter. There are steps that we have taken. These steps and this return will really facilitate our work," Erdoğan said.

He also noted that since 2014, in meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he has urged him to return to the annexed Crimea.

"They are our compatriots too. We told them (Russians. - Ed.) that if they take this step, it will calm us, calm Ukraine, and calm the Crimean Tatars as well. But unfortunately, not a single step in this direction has been made since then," the Turkish president said.
