Joe Biden's administration has decided to lift the ban on the sale of American strike weapons to Saudi Arabia, which the United States has used in recent years to pressure the kingdom to end the war in Yemen.
Reuters learned this from three informed sources.
One of the sources said that this week the Biden administration informed the US Congress of the decision to lift the ban on the sale of strike weapons to Saudi Arabia. Another added that sales could resume next week.
However, the third source said that discussions on the timing are still ongoing.
"Saudi Arabia has fulfilled its end of the bargain, and we are prepared to fulfill ours by returning these cases to normal through appropriate notification to Congress and consultation," the senior Biden administration official told Reuters.
