On Tuesday, August 13, the Romanian Navy conducted a controlled explosion of a mine that was approaching the Black Sea coast.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Reuters.
According to the Romanian Ministry of Defense, early in the morning, local authorities reported an unidentified object that washed ashore in the Grindul Cituc area in southeastern Romania. This area is part of the Danube Delta, which borders Ukraine.
"Based on photographs taken at the site, the object was identified as a YARM-type anti-personnel mine," the ministry said in a statement.
The mine was successfully destroyed by the military.
The Black Sea plays a key role in the transportation of grain, oil and oil products. Its shores are shared by Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia, Turkey, as well as Ukraine and Russia. Since the beginning of the war, more than 100 drifting mines have been found and defused in the Black Sea, the Romanian Navy reported.
