Russia may resume shelling of energy sector - expert

Sep 26, 2024

The Russian Federation (RF) has not abandoned its plans to plunge Ukraine into darkness this winter. The enemy is preparing for large-scale attacks on the energy sector.

This was stated by Oleksandr Musienko, Head of the Center for Military and Legal Studies, in a commentary to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.

“The question here is that we are on the verge of the fact that Russia can carry out large-scale strikes on the energy sector. Well, they (Russians - ed.) are preparing. The President of Ukraine (Volodymyr Zelenskyy - ed.), the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (Andriy Sybiga - ed.) says this, that they are filming energy facilities, that they are preparing, and their plan to plunge Ukraine into darkness this winter is not off the table,” the expert explained.

According to Musienko, today it is important for Ukraine to understand whether it receives enough assistance from its partners to counter Russia's intentions. At the same time, he understands the logic that it may be necessary to stockpile appropriate missiles for future large-scale attacks on the energy sector.

“But we have always raised the issue, and Ukraine has always raised the issue, that we need more air defense to respond not to one challenge, but to respond to the challenge associated with the strikes by the KABs. So I hope that such impudence, such aggressiveness, and such aggressive ambitions of the enemy will eventually be punished,” he added.
