Russian troops are suffering significant losses in armored vehicles while trying to surround Avdiivka and are not making much progress there.
This is stated in the intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defense on Monday, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
According to the review, in recent days, Russia has continued to prioritize the operation to encircle Avdiivka. However, Russian forces have made only minor progress at the cost of heavy losses in armored vehicles.
In particular, Russia's 10th Tank Regiment apparently lost most of its tanks while attempting to encircle Avdiivka from the south.
The regiment is part of the 3rd Army Corps, the first major new formation created by Russia to support the invasion of Ukraine in August 2022.
According to numerous open-source reports, the 3rd Army Corps is particularly plagued by problems of indiscipline and low morale. Despite the alleged training period in Belarus, the formation still demonstrates limited combat capability.
The losses of the 10th Tank Regiment are likely to be mainly due to tactically flawed frontal attacks, similar to other recent failed Russian armored attacks, such as around the town of Vuhledar.
