The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has authorized Russian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
However, they were given a number of requirements, the Vse Sport agency reports, citing its sources.
The basic criteria will be based on the formation of a refugee team that has existed since 2016.
Russian athletes in Paris will compete in a neutral status, under the IOC flag and under the name "Neutral Athletes" or "Neutral Olympic Athletes".
Athletes will have to apply for participation in the Games in person, without the mediation of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and national federations. And only in individual events of the Olympic program. The participation of Russians in team sports is prohibited by the March decision of the IOC.
The applications will be checked for compliance with the qualification standards and for compliance with the criteria of the IOC recommendations. The signing of special statements condemning the "SVO" is not planned, but everything can change.
After the IOC approves the participant's application, the athlete must stop participating in all national competitions and stop accepting any (financial, organizational) support from Russian sports organizations.
The IOC is ready to finance only the athlete's participation in the Olympic Games, i.e. pay for travel, accommodation, and meals. Employees approved by the IOC will be responsible for solving the athletes' everyday issues at the Games. As for participation in qualifying races, training camps, coaches, and specialists, all costs are borne by the athlete.
The issue of personal trainers and specialists (doctors, masseurs) attending the Games has not yet been finalized.
The IOC will develop equipment for neutral athletes.
The IOC's conditions have already been communicated to Russian sports leaders.
