The deputy commander of the joint group of Russian troops in Ukraine, the head of the VKS, General Sergei Surovikin, has been detained by Russian counterintelligence and isolated in connection with the mutiny of Yevhen Prigozhin and the Wagner PMC.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Russian opposition publication Verstka, citing two sources.
General Surovikin has been detained by the FSB on suspicion of involvement in the organization of the mutiny, but no charges have been brought against him so far. A source close to the law enforcement agencies said this. According to another source, Surovikin has been isolated and has not been in contact with his family for more than two weeks. According to the sources, interrogations of the general continue.
Lawyer Yevhen Smirnov, who spoke to the publication, emphasizes that there are many ways to keep a person isolated from society without being charged. For example, it can be an administrative arrest or the initiation of another case.
