On Tuesday, the Central Command of the US Armed Forces in Syria (CENTCOM) reported another incident involving Russian aviation, which resulted in damage to an American MQ-9 drone.
This is stated in a statement by CENTCOM Air Force Commander Alex Hrynevych.
According to Hrynevych, the incident occurred on the afternoon of July 23. When the American MQ-9 drone was carrying out an operation to destroy Islamic State terrorists, Russian fighters resorted to provocations.
Among other things, Russian planes flew close to the drone and fired flares a few meters away, one of which hit the MQ-9 and seriously damaged its propeller. However, the drone was able to continue flying and return safely to the base.
"The Russian fighter jet's blatant disregard for flight safety distracts us from our mission to ensure the ultimate defeat of ISIS. We call on Russian forces in Syria to immediately put an end to this reckless, unprovoked, and unprofessional behavior," Hrynevych emphasized.
