Russians kill at least 262 Ukrainian athletes

Apr 2, 2023

Ukraine's Minister of Youth and Sports Vadym Hutzayt said that Russian aggression has claimed the lives of at least 262 Ukrainian athletes.

The Russian army has also destroyed 363 sports facilities in Ukraine, the President's Office reports.

"It is very important for us that there are no athletes from Russia at sports competitions and the Olympic Games, because they all support this war and attend events held in support of this war," the minister said.

In his turn, the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, reminded that, in particular, 90% of Russian gymnasts are also members of the Russian army club CSKA and represent the Russian military.

"We know that sanctions are the best non-lethal way of influence. That is why Ukraine emphasizes the need to continue sanctions. And one of their types is to prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in the Olympic Games and other international competitions," Yermak said.
