German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discusses the situation in the region by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The leaders "discussed the situation in Israel, the occupied territories and the region, as well as the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip," the press service said.
Scholz emphasized that Germany steadfastly stands by Israel.
At the same time, the Chancellor emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian aid to improve the situation of people in the Gaza Strip.
"A humanitarian ceasefire could lead to a significant improvement in the provision of the population," the German politician said. He informed Netanyahu about the continuation of diplomatic contacts aimed at preventing the regional spread of the conflict.-
Prime Minister Netanyahu, in turn, spoke about Israel's efforts to protect civilians in Gaza, which Hamas continues to use as a cover.
The heads of government also discussed efforts to secure the speedy release of hostages, especially children, the elderly, the sick, and women.
