Pseudo-referendums at gunpoint of the occupation forces in Russia and in violation of basic democratic principles can neither be accepted nor recognized.
This was stated by Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maria Pejcinovic-Buric, reports the European Truth.
"The announced so-called 'referendums' in Ukrainian territories occupied by Russian troops are a further escalation of the conflict and a continuing violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity. Such "referendums" held at gunpoint of the occupation forces and in violation of basic democratic principles can neither be accepted nor recognized," said the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
She stressed that the Council of Europe rejects this mockery of democracy and reaffirms its commitment to Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
She once again called for an end to war and a return to peace in Europe.
