Serbia and Romania agree to build a gas interconnector

On Monday, August 5, the Energy Ministers of Romania and Serbia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of a gas interconnector between the two countries.

The memorandum was signed by Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Jedovic Handanovic and her Romanian counterpart Sebastian Burdua.

The interconnector is planned to connect the Mokrin hub in Serbia with the BRUA gas pipeline across the border in Romania, with the Serbian section to be completed by 2027.

The length of the pipeline on the Serbian side will be 13 kilometers and 86 kilometers on the Romanian side, and the projected capacity of the interconnector is at least 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas.

The Serbian government said the project is designed to strengthen the energy security of both countries and diversify supply routes to the regional market.
