Severe fires have been observed near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant for the past week. They complicate the problems faced by ZNPP.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the press service of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

According to the IAEA, over the past week, the agency's mission has observed several fires at different distances from the ZNPP and nearby villages. Over the weekend, the fire broke out under the overhead cables of the 750 kilovolt (kV) Dniprovska line and the 1330 kV Ferosplavna backup power line, the last external power lines that feed the plant.

The agency emphasized that the fires pose a risk of losing external power supply to ZNPP.

"The external power supply to ZNPP remains vulnerable, and any threat to the operability of the last two power lines is of extreme concern," said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

He added that measures must be taken to protect the last two power lines.
