The first six out of ten Spanish Leopard main battle tanks have arrived aboard a transport vessel in a Polish port.
This was stated by Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles, Spiegel reports.
"By defending Ukraine, we not only protect the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty but also support the right to legitimate self-defense enshrined in the UN Charter," Robles said at a meeting with her colleagues from Germany and France in Madrid.
The Spanish Leopard tanks, which were shipped from Santander last Saturday, are older Type 2A4 models. They have long been decommissioned and have been mothballed in a warehouse near Zaragoza since 2012.
Before being shipped to Ukraine, the tanks were overhauled and tested for use on the battlefield.
