Sunak: Ukraine's rightful place is in NATO

Jun 1, 2023

On Friday, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak reaffirmed his support for Ukraine's future membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.

This was reported by PA Media.

Speaking to journalists at the summit of the European Political Community in Moldova, Sunak did not provide detailed information about London's position on Ukraine's path to membership in the Alliance.

"I agree with the NATO secretary general that Ukraine's rightful place is in NATO, and what we are also talking to Ukraine about now is making sure that they have all the support they need to be able to successfully counterattack," he said.

He said he is proud of Britain's record of support for Ukraine, adding that he wants to make sure we do everything we can to make sure Ukraine is successful.

"We want to make sure that we have created security arrangements for Ukraine for the long term, so we are sending a very strong message to Vladimir Putin that we are not going anywhere, we will be here and we will continue to support Ukraine - not only now but in the years to come," he emphasized.

During a meeting with Sunak on the sidelines of the summit in Moldova, Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked him for providing long-range Storm Shadow missiles.
