Helping Ukraine in its resistance to Russian aggression is fully in the interests of US national security, as well as the security of European NATO allies, to which the United States has obligations under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
The coordinator of the National Security Council of the White House, John Kirby, said this on Wednesday during an online briefing, Ukrinform's correspondent reports.
"This is important not only for the people of Ukraine but also for our European allies and partners, especially our NATO allies, given that hostilities are taking place near many of our NATO allies," said a representative of the Biden administration.
He emphasized that the support of Ukraine is also important for the national security of the American people. And if some Americans do not feel this or do not understand, then they should realize that in the event of the victory of the Russian Federation and the occupation of Ukraine, Putin will not stop, Kirby added.
In this case, according to him, the current financial costs will be incomparable to what the Americans will have to pay if the Russian Federation is allowed to advance further. And this also applies to the lives of the American military in the event of the need to protect NATO allies in Europe following the obligations under the North Atlantic Treaty, Kirby emphasized.
"So, this battle is much larger than just the sovereignty of Ukraine, although it is primarily about that," the representative of the White House noted.-
In this context, he emphasized that the United States will continue to focus on supporting Ukraine in its resistance to Russian aggression.
